Powder Room Refresh
BEFORE AFTER
It’s always fun starting off the New Year with a small room makeover. It’s amazing how a little paint can completely transform a room, and I am feeling SO inspired to spruce up some other rooms in my home. We decided to freshen up our first-floor powder room right before the holidays. It was a room we quickly renovated when we first moved in and we never got around to completing our vision for this bathroom until now. I already knew over two years ago that I wanted floor to ceiling board and batten. A last-minute decision I made for this bathroom was to go with a darker, moodier color. I figured for a small bathroom refresh, why not go bold? The color is not going to be for everyone, but I love the vibes I get in this room. It feels so warm and cozy, and the trim work added a bit of sophistication.
Small Bathroom Makeover Details
So when we first bought our home over two years ago, all the rooms were a complete disaster and every room needed new flooring and paint. You can read a bit more about the condition of our home when we first purchased it in this blog post here. We immediately changed the flooring to a pretty patterned tile. I love the look of patterned tile and chose to do patterns in all three bathrooms and laundry room.
After changing the vanity and toilet, we had to prioritize other things in the house so we just slapped some paint on the walls and called it a day. I didn’t know two years would fly by before we would come back to this room, but at last we did and I would say it was worth the wait. The board and batten adds so much depth to the small bathroom, and the long vertical boards make our bathroom feel even taller. The deep green color on the walls adds warmth and sophistication to the room. The bathroom floor has a timeless design that you may see in many European homes and they just make me so happy. Did I mention we have heated floors?! That is a feature we added to all our bathrooms that I am glad we did not skip out on.
If you would like to try a similar look on your walls, here are the measurements from our own project. We used MDF wood for all the trim pieces.
Board and Batten Measurements:
- Vertical “batten” trim 1 1/2″ wide
- Baseboards 5 1/2″ wide
- Ceiling trim 3 1/2″ wide
- Batten spacing 15″ (center to center)
