RV BATHROOM MAKEOVER

January 6, 2022 · Before and After

First…Our Camper Story

Camper

This past year, we decided to trade in our RV travel trailer for a different model. Our camper was only a few years old, but the layout was not very practical for a family of four who go camping pretty often in the spring and summer months. So, when I came across a used camper, same size as ours but with a MUCH better layout, we jumped on it.  Our new camper not only offers way better storage, but this Mama loves that the bathroom is located at the entrance (unlike our last camper where we had to walk through to the other side). This means less dirt on the floors when the kids are walking in and out to use the bathroom. Win!

We had purchased our last camper brand new, so I felt very funny about changing anything or spending money on upgrades. This time around since we bought used, I felt much more at ease and decided to have fun with it and add my decorator’s touch. You may or may not know, but campers tend to have a whole lot of the color brown and often lack personality. Our family LOVES to go camping, so I wanted to make this camper feel more like our home away from home. It honestly didn’t take much to complete the RV bathroom makeover and it made a BIG impact.  My family enjoys our camping trips even more in the newly decorated space.

Wall Tiles

Bathroom Update    Bathroom Makeover

The peel and stick wall tiles for sure made the biggest impact in our camper bathroom.  It was a low budget option that was relatively simple to put up and instantly updated the look and feel of the room. It’s definitely worth it to watch some tutorial videos before tackling this type of project. I am sure glad I did, because I am afraid I would have made some major mistakes if I hadn’t.  Here are some tips that I learned along the way that will help any first-time with their peel and stick project.

Tip #1

Begin by removing everything from the wall. I had to rip out the camper mirror, which was glued on so tight! I did this very carefully as to not damage the wall underneath. I also removed the existing towel hook and later replaced it with a new one.

Tip #2

Always start your first tile in the upper left corner of your space. The rest of the tiles will naturally overlap with one another from there. If you start in the wrong direction, your project will not go well and you will not achieve good results.

Tip #3

Start off laying your tiles as level as possible. You will be off to a great start if everything is level and then you just have to worry about continuing on a straight path from there.

Tip #4

Make sure to have really good scissors on hand to make all your cuts. You want to ensure you make all your cuts as clean and straight as possible without ruining the tiles.

Accessorize

RV Bathroom    RV Bathroom Makeover

Once the harder part was done of installing the peel and stick tiles, the last part (and most fun) was accessorizing the bathroom. Since I had ripped out the original small mirror from the bathroom wall, I had to replace it with a cuter mirror that was actually long enough for the kids to see themselves. I chose a lovely oval mirror that was narrow and fit the space perfectly above the sink. Since the new mirror was super heavy, I had my husband use anchors to hang it up. I then replaced the towel hook beside the mirror using regular screws. I also hung a vintage style accordion rack on the side wall for our bath towels. After that I added my finishing touches, such as a small vase, baskets to hold our bathroom essentials, a new hand towel and rug. Linked below are some of the things I purchased for our camper bathroom makeover.

Tip #5

Use Command Hanging Strips to hang things that are light to medium weight. I used a few velcro strips to hang the accordion towel rack and it has been working great!

Tip #6

When decorating campers, you have to consider the fact that your little home away from home will be in motion part of the time and you can’t have your things flying all over the room and possibly breaking. A trick I used to keep my tabletop décor pieces in place was museum putty. The putty will do a great job at  keeping your small lightweight objects in place when there’s movement, and it gives you one less thing to put away or secure when you’re ready to hit the road.
